North Atlantic Council delegation visited Lithuania-led PRT in Afghanistan
Lithuanian Permanent Representative Linas Linkevicius, together with the North Atlantic Council led by NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, and accompanied by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General James Jones and the Chairman of the Military Committee, General Ray Henault, visited Afghanistan between 4 and 6 October 2005. Part of the delegation, headed by Secretary General, visited Lithuania-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghor Provice, Chagcharan. Lithuanian ambassador said after the visit he was impressed by great Afghan peoples‘ expectations related to the Provincial Reconstruction Team. “Lithuanian Team feels very much obliged not to fall short of these expectations”. Ambassador Linkevicius also stressed that the visit proved the necessity to involve other international organizations – including United Nations, the European Union and the G-8 – into the assistance provided to Afghan people by NATO ISAF forces and PRTs.
