Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and NATO Deputy Secretary General discuss key security agenda items
On 15 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow, who came to Lithuania to participate in the traditional informal Snow Meeting organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
The officials discussed the implementation of the decisions on the measures of collective defence taken at NATO Summit in Wales and the implementation of a Readiness Action Plan, as well as the Alliance’s adaptation to the new security environment.
“It is important to promptly and smoothly implement the decisions taken in Wales. This has a great significance to transatlantic security and the Baltic Sea region. It is necessary to constantly ensure that the Alliance is ready to address the security challenges it might face,” said L.Linkevičius.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister noted the important role of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in planning exercises, in establishing command and control elements, and in developing Very High Readiness Joint Task Force.
