Lithuania’s Embassy in Ukraine assumes the role of NATO’s Contact Point Embassy

From 1 January 2015, Lithuania’s Embassy in Ukraine took over the role of NATO’s Contact Point Embassy in Ukraine for two years.

Key tasks of NATO’s Contact Point Embassy include dissemination of information about the Alliance’s activities and policies, organisation of public events raising general awareness of and support for the Alliance, cooperation with local media, public institutions and non-governmental organizations. Special attention will be given to activities in Ukrainian regions.

“I am glad that Lithuania is entrusted with the honourable duty to represent the Alliance in Ukraine. We strive to strengthen cooperation between NATO and Ukraine, as well as the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration,” said Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius commenting on the decision taken by NATO member countries on 15 July that the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine perform the role of NATO’s Contact Point Embassy from 2015 to 2017.

Previously, the functions were carried out by the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine for the past two years.

Lithuanian representations performed the role of NATO’s Contact Point Embassies in Sweden (2013-2014), in Georgia (2011-2012), in Moldova (2009-2010) and in Belarus (2004-2010).
