Project financed by ELSIS Enterprise, currently responsible for extension of the PRT camp, included heat isolation installation into the building of children’s home, repairing broken window-frames, glassing in, and heat isolation coating. Roof of the house will also probably be equipped with heat isolation material. It is the first time regional project of Lithuanian soldiers is financed by a Lithuanian enterprise. “By financing the project ELSIS Enterprise gave an inspiring example of how a Lithuanian company can contribute to initiation and completion of support for provincial people projects,” Col. D.Polekauskas said. Present orphans’ home is in disrepair, without any sanitary units, 19 children sleep on rags put on clay flooring under leaking roof with drafts coming in through windows. Home is settled in a rented building. New building for children’s home was started this autumn on initiative of Lithuania and other international donors. Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Republic of Lithuania will allocate 50 thousand dollars from the Afghanistan Development Cooperation and Support Fund for the project. 60 thousand dollars for the project were collected by the “Women Brunssum” charity organisation. International Organization of Immigration (IOM) gave another 50 thousand dollars. Since the very beginning of their activities in Ghowr PRT have been paying significant attention to the needs of children in order to improve their living conditions and quality of education. This year children of all ten districts of the province should receive learning means and warm clothes before winter. Part of the children’s home building project is financed by a non-governmental organisation Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Support for Afghanistan (PARSA) experienced in organising orphans’ home’s activities and ensuring children rights. About 300 children should move into their new home in the following summer. Pictures by Darius Stanaitis 1st Lt.Vida Urbonaite PIO for PRT-5 |
