On Thursday, June 14 the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania prolonged the mandate for Lithuanian military units to participate in international operations. Lithuania will continue observing its international obligations to ensure peace and security and will continue contributing to international operations abroad for another three years, till the end of 2010. The mandate enables military personnel to serve on international missions in the regions of Balkans, Central and South Asia, Southern Caucasus and the Persian Gulf.
Currently, Lithuanian military personnel are engaged in NATO ISAF operation in Afghanistan, NATO KFOR operation in Kosovo, the Coalition-led operation and NATO Training Mission in Iraq and the EU-led operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
