Lithuania-led Provincial Reconstruction Team has moved to the new base camp

On Saturday, 3 September, troops of the Lithuania-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Afghanistan’s province of Ghor raised the Lithuania’s national flag at the new base camp located from the old one just a half of a kilometre away.

The new base camp has been set up and equipped from US funds under the decision by the US Congress to support the Lithuania-led PRT.

The new camp base houses a stationary canteen, WC, shower cabins; tents with TV equipment, board games for off service hours of troops, as well as a gym. In the tents there are air-conditioning systems operating. The new base camp can provide place for a total of 225 persons.

Currently, the Lithuania-led PRT involves over 120 military and non-military personnel: over 100 Lithuanians, 14 US personnel who are in charge of air traffic control and air craft maintenance, and four staff officers from Denmark. Furthermore, 2 political advisors have been assigned to the Lithuania-led PRT, one of the has been delegated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, while the other – by the US Department of State.
