On 26 January 2010 in the Lithuanian Delegation to NATO Apostolic Nuncio in Belgium and Luxembourg Mgr Giacinto Berloco met with the Permanent Representatives to NATO of Lithuania, Belgium, Croatia, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland and Portugal. Professor Adam Rotfeld, member of the Experts Group preparing NATO’s Strategic Concept also took part in the meeting.                                      The participants of the meeting discussed the view of the Holy See on the role of the Alliance in 21st century, on the importance of upholding moral values both in the new NATO Strategic Concept and in daily activities in NATO operations. The attention was drawn to the increasing role of humanitarian aspects in the undertakings of the Alliance, comprehensive approach to security, role of the religious dialogue in solving crises and conflicts. It was a general understanding that these issues should find their place in the Strategic Concept. “We would appreciate that the voice of the Holy See, who is a tremendous moral authority for billions of people, is better heard in this biggest and most powerful political military Alliance. Alliance should be open for a dialogue with Vatican and other world religions. Their message should be better heard in NATO. Therefore we organized this meeting with the envoy of the Holy See and  it is my hope that this  dialogue would  continue.” – summarized the purpose of the meeting Lithuanian Ambassador to the North Atlantic Council  Mr. Linas Linkevičius.
